Weekend Recap

Is the weekend really over already  ?.. ugh..

So I am in the middle of my marathon training and I find myself thinking of the marathon my whole run. I go over in my head "Am I ready ? , Are you nuts? , Do u know how long 26.2 miles is ? OMG but how amazing will it feel when I cross the finish line, Ya you got this, Look how far you have come stop doubting yourself!" I know this is probably normal and I will do it up until I actually run my marathon. I am following Hal Higdons Novice 1 training program and I have choose Johnny Miles marathon as my first! I have picked this race because its in June which means perfect running temps. its  4 laps of 10.6km so I can see friends/family every lap and just think of making it until the next lap and not the whole 42.2 km ( easier on the head maybe) I picked this race because its not hilly and I have run the 10k in 2012 and the 1/2 marathon last year. and loved it! check out the elevation chart for it .

Looks like a perfect 1st marathon :)

Saturdays Run

Saturday I ran 6 short and sweet km around my subdivion. The weather was spring like and it was a great day for a run:) I even wore my spring jacket running

After my run and running errands I came home and made one of my fav treats to bring to work with me in my lunches. Energy balls!

Sunday Run
Today called for 11km. I got up early and made myself and my boyfriend pancakes. I don't normally eat anything but my oatmeal or toast in the morning but it was a nice Sunday treat.

I ran a few streets in my subdivion and then headed out on the main road. My legs felt great today . I ran past a few neighbors as they waved to me while driving by. I love how friendly everyone is in my neighborhood :) I didn't wear anything covering my ears today because when I looked out the window is was sunny and looked warm like yesterday. ugh I was wrong. I wore a lulu lemon head band that didn't cover my ears and I regretted it the first 3 km. It was sunny but -6
As I ran I felt warmer and it wasn't so bad. At 8 Km I turned around to head home, the wind is always bad the way back and my ears were freezing. I ran out on the main road a little to far and had to walk 2 km home when I finished my run at 11km. I sometimes find it hard to stop certain day especially when your feeling really good, it would be so much easier just to run the rest of the way home. I am trying to stick to this program as best as I can. My pirifomis muscle was acting up in early February and after a few physio sessions its just starting to feel good again. I don't want to go over my millage and risk an injury.
After my run today I went out for coffee with my boyfriend and re fueled with a café mocha :)
I spent the rest of the day slaving away in the kitchen making a turkey dinner. My very first turkey actually :) after a few calls/txt to my mom and mother in law asking questions it turned out great. Mind you I cant breath now and I feel huge haha

Thanks for stopping  by and I hope you had a Runderful weekend :)

Hypothermic Half Marathon Recap

Last Sunday I ran in my 4th official half marathon, the hypothermic half. I registered  for this race back in late fall because I was determined to run all winter and keep up my long distances so I wouldn't loose any of my conditioning for the spring. I thought by registering for a half I wouldn't have no choice but run long runs all winter. Well it worked, I logged more miles this winter then I did all summer :)

The night before I had everything ready and laid out and my bag all packed
I got to bed semi early and had my alarm set for 5:30 am. Jennifer, Kim got to my house to pick me up around 6:45.Then we headed over to pick up Heather and head to eastern passage for 8:30 start time.
I kept telling myself this is a training run not a race I need to PR on just to use as experience and to have another half under my belt :)

I felt good the first few Km I looked at my Garmin at 5 km I was at 28 min (easy pace) then again at 8K (44min) 10k (58min) I thought ok I am running at a normal easy pace for me. I stopped glancing at my watch and just ran. Around 15km I saw a guy I recognized when  I got closer to him and saw the back of his shirt, it had a picture of a man with the words MY INSPERATION. then it came to me he was the son of the man who shared a room with my dad at the hospital last month (they both were fighting lung cancer) the Doctors told the man he was stage 4 lung cancer and was terminal. When I saw his son wearing the shirt it hit close to home for me, tears started falling down my cheeks.
The second half of the race was rolling hills that seemed to go on and go.
I looked at my watch again around 18km and I thought WOW! I could actually PR today. I didn't plan to but the runner in me had to push now that I was so close.  I gave it my all the last few Km and turned the corner and the clock said 1:59. my Garmin read 2:00
Previous PR was 2:03
When I crossed the finish line Heather and Steve were there to cheer me in :)
Heather and I waited to cheer in Jenn and Kim ( Kim was running her first ever Half)

Afterwards we all headed over to Smittys for a well deserved Breakfast of champs
It was a great day and a great run :)

Here are a few more pics from the race that day

First Blog Post & Semi long run

Wow I am officially half way through my marathon training schedule. This weeks long run called for 16km, I ran it today (Friday) because I was off work and it was a perfect day for a long run. Tomorrow I will run 11k and then 6k on Sunday.

I always read and hear people say you can never judge a run on the first few km and boy was that true today, I felt a bit sluggish and legs felt heavy till I hit about 10km, for some reason everything always feels better after 10k :) I  finished my 16k and felt strong
When I got home I stretched, foam rolled, 2 min plank and made my recovery smoothie :)

That's baby Jackson my puppy. I can never get a stretch in without him trying to lick my face :p

This Evening Courtney came over to help me set up my blog :) Thanks Courtney. I have been meaning to do this for a while now and thought now is the perfect time because next week my training starts to get real. I have the 25 km Moose run in Cow Bay I will be using this race as a training run and I am super excited, this will be my longest run to date and it is really when I start pushing my limits.
